Steve Anderson, an Oregon Registered Appraiser, shares practical insights and real-world knowledge of the Oregon property taxation and appeals system. With experience in over 4,000 cases—as both a hearings officer and a taxpayer representative—Steve brings a rare, balanced perspective to the appeals process.

The Oregon Property Tax and Appeals Class

This is our most popular class. It covers:

  • Measures 5 and 50 and their impact on property taxes

  • Property tax appeal timelines and critical deadlines

  • Property information available to taxpayers that is often overlooked

  • How property values are assigned

  • Who has the right to appeal

  • What to expect during the hearing itself

Oregon Omitted Property, Exception Value Tax & The Gross Error Statute

This class is a focused continuation of the original Oregon Property Tax and Appeals class, diving deeply into three complex and increasingly important topics:

  • The Gross Error Statute

While many property owners have heard these terms, few fully understand them—and misunderstandings in these areas are causing growing problems for taxpayers across Oregon.

Steve Anderson presents this fast-paced class using real-world case stories from his experience both as a taxpayer’s representative and as a former hearings officer for the Clackamas County Board of Property Tax Appeals. These practical examples help make a very dry subject more engaging, understandable, and immediately useful.

Despite the technical nature of the material, the class is designed to be informative, interactive, and even a little fun.

Oregon Property Tax Exemptions & HOA Issues

This class explores Oregon’s more than 100 property tax exemptions, with a focused, practical review of the 10 most commonly used exemptions. Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of which exemptions may apply, how they are administered, and where problems frequently arise.

The class also addresses select homeowners association (HOA) issues, including real-world scenarios that have led to disputes and potential litigation.

Note: Presentations made to a group of property owners are generally done at no charge, if the intent is to educate prior to pursuing a group of tax appeals (most common with residents within the same building or neighborhood). Presentations made to business professionals are billed at Steve's hourly rate unless discussed otherwise.
